Building a Dynamic Randomized Twitter Simulation for Choose Your Fighter

N.F.T. Twitter is a cheeky homage to crypto Twitter culture — but inside the Choose Your Fighter universe. Here, "NFT" stands for Nemesis Fighting Tournament, not Non-Fungible Token. I built a dynamic Twitter simulation where fighters from different gangs post random thoughts, challenges, and hype tweets about the tournament, creating a living, breathing social feed for my game world.

Goals

• Practice combining multiple JSON data sources dynamically (users and tweets).
• Build a randomization engine that feels natural, like real social media.
• Create a lightweight, fun world-building feature for Choose Your Fighter.
• Make a highly stylized, cheeky UI that feels polished but not overly serious.

What I Built

Dynamic Randomization Engine

The system randomly matches users from a JSON file with tweets from another JSON file — complete with real names, handles, avatar images, gang affiliations, and timestamps. No two sessions are exactly alike.

Custom Tweet Rendering

Each randomized tweet includes:

• Avatar (with PNG fallback logic)
• Username and handle
• Randomized likes and retweets
• Randomized "hours ago" timestamps plus today's real date/time
• Dynamic hashtags and emoji readiness

Interactive UX Details

The "Load More Tweets" button features subtle hover animations — with the button text changing to "Seriously?" if you keep hovering. These little touches help keep the vibe fun, meta, and in-world.

Clean UI Design

I styled the whole thing in dark mode to match Choose Your Fighter's aesthetic — balancing modern Twitter looks with a slightly retro arcade vibe through typography and spacing choices.

The Tech Stack

• HTML + CSS: Styled responsive feed with modern flexbox layout and dynamic hover states.
• JavaScript: Randomization engine, dynamic loading, avatar fallback logic, timestamp randomization, and event handling.
• JSON Data Structures: users.json and tweets.json to simulate a living social media network.

Why It Matters

• Helped me level up from single-source randomization (like Pick-A-Psych) to combining multiple dynamic datasets cleanly.
• Taught me how to build believable randomness: timestamps, likes, retweets, emoji, hashtags.
• Expanded the Choose Your Fighter universe into an everyday social layer — not just battles and tournaments.
• Showed that even small, playful side projects can add real depth and flavor to a fictional world.

• Add simple filtering to browse tweets by gang or fighter allegiance.
• Expand tweet pools to add even deeper lore references and meme-level in-jokes.
